With our busy lives, going to the gym often takes a back seat to other priorities. Nobody has hours to spend at the gym. But I strongly believe that our health must be a priority for everyone. We just cannot afford to be unhealthy, because is painful and expensive. So, here are some tips to help you make the most of your precious time when you're working out:
1. After warm-up, start lifting weights. Choose exercises for big muscles, because the bigger the muscle, the more calories will burn. The important thing is to do exercices back to back, with minimal or no rest in between sets. This will increase the heart rate, and you'll tone your muscles and burn calories in the same time saving a lot of time.
2. Do your cardio (treadmill, bike) at the end of your workout, when your body has depleted its glycogen deposit and will switch to fatburning mode.
3. Don't do slow boring cardio. Instead, choose high intesity interval training.
With these tips, you'll be able to save yourself sometime while maximizing results

Health should be a priority for all of us, indeed, but why go to the gym when you can walk, jog, bike, hike, swim, play outdoors or indoors with different sized balls (from ping-pong to bowling), dance, do any other sports or outdoor activities etc., etc.? Are you suggesting that "going to the gym" is the best solution for a healthy life?
ReplyDeleteBecause we need to lift weights besides doing cardio (which can be done outdoors or indoors or both. See my article "Is weight training necessary?"
ReplyDeleteA healthy life is not only about being active, is about nutrition as well, sleep, positive thinking etc.
Positive thinking is overrated, it's just a cognitive bias. So buying a membership to a gym and working out several times a week is imperative for a healthy life and there's no alternative? There must be some marketing strategy implied in this assertion...
ReplyDeleteI said we can do cardio outdoors, indoors or both, so no gym membership needed. We neeed to train with weights too, most likely we find them in a gym, but we can workout with dumbells and rubber bands (like some of my clients do)in our living room.
ReplyDeleteI don't own a gym and my blog is not affiliated with any gym.
I strongly belive in positive thinking, focusing on negative aspects of live doesn't get us very far.
Focusing on positive thoughts may not be beneficial at all. More in the article "Why Positive Thinking May Be Overrated": http://www.forbes.com/2009/10/14/positive-thinking-myths-lifestyle-health-happiness.html
ReplyDeleteThanks for your input here. Positive thinking has worked well for me and many others, so I'm standing by my recommendation.
ReplyDeletepositive thinking is better than negative or no thinking - consider this and make your decision! :))))
ReplyDeleteWell, actually, no. Both positive and negative thinking have undesirable effects and should be avoided, in favor of rational thinking.
