How To Read The Food Labels

An important step in getting more health conscious is to be aware of what we eat every day. Besides reading articles and following radio and TV show focused on health and nutrition, a good thing to do is to read the food labels before buying the food items.
A food label will give you valuable information about the nutrients (proteins carbohydrate and fats) that are present and their percentage.
They are some important things that we should pay attention to when read labels:
1. Low fat or "'0" fat products, many times they are high is sugar or salt or both. Even if the product has an "healthy heart" label on it doesn't mean that is actually healthy. A product which is high in sugar is still dangerous for your health as hi intakes of sugar are correlated to obesity, type 2 diabetes and even dementia.
2. No fat no sugar products which contain high fructose corn syrup. Basically high fructose corn syrup even if it is made out of corn it is still high in calories and has the same effects on your body as sugar does.
3.Hydrogenated trans fats are mentioned on the food labels and we should avoid them as they are related to coronary heart disease.link:http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19345947
